I've been trying to do 1 1/2s for 2 years now, but I can't seem to get it. First someone told me just to hold the flip a little longer then go into a dive, but then i always do a bellyflop/faceplant into the water. Then I tried to get lots of air and do a flip then go into the dive, but I never have enough time to go into the dive. Please help!!

Oh and its on a regular sized diving board, like 4/5 feet off the ground....

  1. I have been diving for 2 and a half years now and i just got my 1 and a half.

Do your approach, and go straight up when you hurdle...

go for your flip but throw a little harder with your arms...

Once you feel yourself complete the one sumi. Just hold on. Whatever you do dont open up!

If you think your half way around...your not. lol. Thats when the belly flops and face plants come in.  Hold on longer than you think is necessary and then quicky snap open.

Hallow out your stomache (suck it in) so if you do end up belly flopping it wont hurt as much. Also try bringing a big t-shirt in and wearing it while you dive. Dont try the 1 and 1/2 with the dry shirt though...jump in the water with it on first. Some people say t-shirts dont help the pain...but sometimes the comfort is there. I think it helps a little bit.

And overall Just keep practicing...over and over. Tell your self what you are doing wrong after each dive and slowly try and fix it.

Hint: If you stay tucked and dont open up at all it wont hurt when you hit the water...just keep your head tucked in.

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail!

    Good Luck! =]

and you will get it! I promise
