Tips, videos, pictures... Anything will help really! I've been watching tennis channel for a very long time now since 2 weeks ago. I watched Federerr and Blake do there 1 hand backhand. I think I'm doing right but I'm not really sure. And how do you hit straight? When I do do it it only goes cross court. Sorry if I'm making this more complicated then it should be!

  1. Hi,

Youtube helps like the other guy says but not all the videos are that clear or slow enough for you to follow I would suggest a coach or watch a few good players from you school local club or on the pro level do a one handed backhand.

You'll need it as a weapon later.

Also about the straightness you need to take a step back and then stare at the ball and direct the ball down the line or straight where you want to go. Taking a step back helps you because it creates more room for you to hit because I think you were to cramped up that's why you can only hit it cross court.

  2. a lot better than you tube can do

good luck  and keep watching videos right before  you go out and play (sports psychology thing)

  3. keep watching you tube

  4. i think you should try searching for videos about one-handed backhand stroke in you tube. some of them includes comments and suggestions from a pro trainer. if i'm not mistaken, one of the site providing these footage is www.fuzzyyellowballs.com.

one key point in doing one-handed backhand stroke is to start your turn early, and really stretch your racquet hand to the back. this allows you to gather the muscle power required when hitting the ball. try to take your racquet to the back so it is about at 6 o'clock (assuming you're a right hander, turn your chest to 9 o'clock and your right shoulder at 12 o'clock).

also remember to have the backhand grip (or continental grip).

swing forward so the racquet hit the ball at about 10 o'clock and about waist height. your weight should be at your front foot. follow through the forward swing until your hand is about at 12 o'clock and the racquet stretched upward.

to make it cross-court: you already know. swing to the direction of the racquet hand (if right-hander, more to the right). to make it down-the-line, push more forward.

i also find it more consistent if i hit while keeping my head to the point of contact. but practice should makes your shot perfect.

    hope it helps :)
