  1. you should meditate in whatever position you feel most comfortable in

  2. There are many good "poses"/ positions for meditating. The main thing is that you want your body to be relaxed and you want your torso aligned for easier flow of blood, and your chest open for easy breathing.

Many people when they start out find it easier to lay on their backs on a comfortable couch or bed. Don't prop your head up too far forward, if you do this as it closes off your airway and kinks your spinal cord, and puts tension on the neck muscles and your Arteries that supply your brain.

You want your knees to be slightly bent, so if you're laying down you might try putting a pillow under your knees. You want your lumbar spine to be at a minimal curve as that allows for greater relaxation as well. To do that, tuck your buttox under just slightly. Don't have your shoulders held back if you're standing, instead let them hang naturally so that your back is rounded a little.  Your head should be back a little as I hinted to earlier, and your chin should be out so that you feel your airway is wide open. These basic allignments are what you need to think of, whatever position you're taking.

You can also do a sitting style meditation where you sit in a wide chair with your legs crossed Indian Style, but not brought in too close as that creates tension.

There is also a standing type called Standing Post, but I would recommend that you get used to meditating before you try any of that as it is a little advanced and requires you to focus without focusing since you are standing. You will have to be able to feel the alignment of your body and keep your mind clear to do what you want to do while meditating.

Make sure that you have no outside distractions when you're doing this as it will make it extremely difficult for a beginner to focus. You don't have to meditate for an exprbitant amount of time to get it, but you may not want to leave once you feel this ultimate relaxation. When you begin to get good your body will tingle all over almost like a physical high. Its fantastic.

If it is possible where you decide to do this I would recommend facing south with your front (standing/sitting) and face south with your feet when laying down.

    Good luck and enjoy!
