I can turn a little towards my toes, but I want to be able to fully carve and stop on my toes. Is there any technique to do this without having to take a lesson.

  1. Yea, it's pretty much impossible to teach you how to do a toe turn online.  You could try a private lesson, and your instructor will be focused on your problems.

However, I'll give it a try anyhow.

Go on the bunny hill first.  What you're going to want to try to do is use your front foot as a pivot point.  From there, lean forward (forward as in your toe side), push your back foot out behind you, and keep your heels up.  Push out all the way until you're perpendicular to the trail to stop on your toes.

Carving on your toes takes a lot more work, and is pretty much lifting up your heels and leaning, riding on your edge.  And (duh) it's harder.

That's the best I can do online.

  2. depends how much you can turn. when i could turn then i just practiced till it got better. it's my first year but i can carve. it is really fun but you just have to go for it. hope this helps.

also i think lessons are a really good idea. I'm on the team at my school and each day for the first half we have group lessons with people at our skill level. Get a lesson, they don't cost that much. good luck

    ps don't try falling leaf.

my brother was teaching me and he wouldn't allow me to do the falling leaf. if you get to dependent on it then it will just make it harder for you to learn to turn. oh ya and just keep trying and the falling will stop after you try hard enough.

  3. DUHH

    LIFT UP YOUR HEALS!

  4. you want the truth?  get some guts and go for the glory.  don't worry about falling, it will happen as your practice the toe turns.

for a practice drill, try the "falling leaf" with your back turned down slope and on the toe edge

  5. Anyone who thinks they can teach you to turn and "carve" over the Internet is kidding themselves and you... if you can't turn, most resorts have a "Discovery" or other similar beginner package that is very reasonable.  Take a lesson and your snowboarding will better for it.   If you cannot turn and stop on your toe side you are very *very* far from carving.

If you want to get the most from your lesson, do a lot of toeside sideslipping before you go for the lesson.
