Practice.. You cant just memorize a bunch of notes and be done with it. Just practice, its fairly simple. :)

10+x=20

to get rid of ten t get the x isolated we suptact 10 cuz the one in the equation is postive to get 0 and what we do to the left side is what we do to the right side.

10+x-10=20-10

x=10

In algebra, always try to simplify the equation as far as it can go before solving.

Example:

2x^2 + 2x - 4 = 0

(if you don't understand the above, don't freak out)

everything in the equation is divisible by 2, so do so:

x^2 + x - 2 = 0

That is much easier to solve.

The above concept is called -factoring- and it will save your life in the class. Believe me: my teacher jumped on top of an empty desk and screamed at us to always remember to factor.
