I've noticed that a lfew of people on here always give really informative looooong answers every single time... How do you manage to do that everytime you answer?!

Not only would it kill my brain having to think that much in one day, but don't you just want to like..give simple answers sometimes instead of writing so much?

This question is directed to the horse section... And mostly the "top contributors" and people who are always giving long answers..lol ^____^

  1. Because with horses...there is usually no 'short' answer.  Not if they are really wanting to know HOW to do something.  Or WHAT to look for.

That's why we are always learning.  And we learn more than one way to do something.  Because horses are not mechanical and what works for one horse...WILL NOT work for another one.

There is so much information into HOW to deal with horses.  It's really not black and white information alot of the time.  So we try to explain as many details that are necessary for success.

Ha...if I keep trying to explain...WHY we explain...this could go on awhile!!!

With medical...the same thing.  So many different things could be going on...for example...

Say you find a cut on your horse.

    1. Is it fresh?...One set of directions

    2.  A few hours old...another set of directions

    3.  A day or more old...another set of directions

Throw in infection...is it a surface cut or into the muscle?  Did it reach the bone?  See what I mean?

We just try to explain the best we can...and it takes alot of room sometimes.  If we were just talking...instead of typing...this would go alot faster!!

    Sorry so long!!  :):):)

  2. Most of us who've been involved with horses for a lifetime have learned a lot, see both sides or multiple sides to an issue, have gleaned a huge amount of general and very specific information about horses, will go the extra mile to research your question;  and have learned through experience that solving a problem with a horse usually cannot be answered in two short sentences.

You, as the reader of the answer have a choice; if the answer is too long for your liking, then go on to the next answer.  Simple, effective and won't consume your time.

    End of problem.  Agreed?

  3. im not sure why this is in horses, but i guess i write long aswers so that it is more likely that people will choose it as a best answer, and i will get more points.  and plus, more information helps people more.  but why horses?

(this answer is pretty short, compared to some of my others, but i just dont know exactly what else i can answer on this question)

  4. I know I will do it if I think that the answer needs to be explained fully - some questions need long answers and examples and links etc etc.

It also depends on the time as in how much I want to spend in answering before I run off and do something else - sometimes I will just look and know that I just don't have time to give the question the response that it deserves so I leave it and have good intentions of coming back and doing it later - usually in reality I forget all about it or someone else gives pretty much the answer I would have done so I either don't answer it at all or give a short answer.

  5. I don't know about other answerer's but personally, I tend to give longer answers because some of the questions obviously come from people "who have no clue"  For example if someone asks "how much do I feed a horse" they obviously have no clue and aren't going to be Goggling info on how/what/how often/how much to feed a horse at different ages/different work loads or health situations or they wouldn't be asking here in the first place.

My only goal is to help the person help the horse in as in depth manner as I am able. Also, I tend not to answer questions that I am not knowledgeable regarding the subject matter.

Another biggie, I am a stickler for proper grammar and sentence structure. I might not be the best typist and my mind often works much faster than my fingers resulting in misspelling words sometimes but  I can not stand to read "r u k 2nite, or g2g, or ttyl, or l8ter, or jw, or idk, or idc, ect. Just a pet peeve. To me If it's worth saying it's worth actually going to the trouble of typing the word out.

  6. For some reason I have the feeling this was a 'dig' towards me....dunno why Hmmmm

My answers are long because I want to make sure to give as much info as possible if it may help someone.  Not only the asker but those that are lurking.

If I have something that I do that works for me I don't want to keep it a secret.  I want to share it.

Someone may need a few different ideas in case one doesnt work they can go to the next.

When I give an answer I think of it as my friend is at the barn with me and is asking.  I will actually grab a horse and run through my explanation using the horse.  I do better when I have a prop :)

When I am on here I try to envision being with the horse and then type it here...to get the same blow by blow steps.

I like step by step instructions to ensure I don't s***w up!

    hehe

Plus I just talk too much :)

  7. As a person who does not type fast I also think that it depends on how fast you can type!!!

My answers are often shorter out of necessity (fingers cramp!)

    lol.

Its great that some people are so willing to help & are also fast Typists!!

  8. My response is always contingent on what the question generates in my mind. There are times when I provide an example of an experience I can relate that is illustrative and there are other times when I have a strong opinion and don't mind sharing it. I prefer an honest answer and I don't care if it is long or short, as long as it is real, true and responsive.

  9. Sometimes they know more about one subject. There for they can answer alot more then other people with out having to think.

There are some topics (not many) that i can answer a ton, non stop. But then there are some where im just like, um ok this is all i know. lol. And some i just want to go there theres some info srry theres not more lol.

But they may have more time to do it, or they may no more about it.

Or they just really want to help, or want this person to do it the right way to help the horse.

But i soo no what you mean. I gave what i thought was a long answer. then i look at some others and im just like darnit thats a lot more then me!

I so want to be expert! lol i doubt it will happen!

  10. Some have a lot of knowledge because of extensive education and just want to offer as clear an explanation as possible.  Some questions are not easy to answer and take a bit of expounding in order to make sense.

  11. well,

lets say a short answer may only be telling someone "to do a certain thing." ok...

i like long answers because not only do i want to tell you *what to do*, but i want you to know *how to do it* and *why*.

i think answers that tell "why" are very important because you remember them better and what you are doing may make better sense if you know "why" you are doing it.

ok, i don't know if you could even understand that but it kinda made sense to me.

i give long answers mostly because i say the same thing several times in different ways so people know exactly what i mean. the information i give about horses, i believe to be correct and proper and i want to give the best possible answer i can and make sure no one missunderstands me and does something that may not be so good for their horse.

  12. I was an instructor, so I like to explain things thoroughly.  I wonder why it bothers you?  Hope this answer is short enough!

  13. I don't think I give long answers, but I guess people who do just spend a lot of time and effort trying to help the asker

  14. just 2 give a person the FULL anwser they need thats only y!!!!!!!! LOL

  15. "I've noticed that a lfew of people on here always give really informative looooong answers every single time... How do you manage to do that everytime you answer?!"

Because sometimes, there is no easy answer..and putting thoughts into words takes much longer than I often care to type.  But, you try to be helpful and explain since some of the questions asked are so stupid and don't make sense that you feel that you are explaining something to a senseless, ignorant person..which is why I ask myself sometimes..why do I bother!!

You should be grateful that the people care enough to give honest, hands-on, experienced answers  and care enough to provide DETAILED information so someone may learn something.  Sorry you think it is something to LOL about!!

"Not only would it kill my brain having to think that much in one day, but don't you just want to like..give simple answers sometimes instead of writing so much?"

What do you do all day...stay in bed and sleep?  Maybe you should try to stimulate your brain cells.

I don't know what "section" you come from...but perhaps you should go back there where answers are more cut and dry and don't take much thought.

Hope my answer wasn't too difficult for you to read, retain and understand.;-)  And...sorry if it was too loooooooooooooong.

  16. Most of us have been around oh lets say horses. We all know a lot about horse because we either have horses or have had horse for a long time. We like to give as much information as we can to help the person that needs help. We have the knowledge because of experience ( well that is what it is with me) We have done the things that people are asking and we know what the dos and don'ts are. It is just experience and sometimes common sense. = )

  17. I know lots

    &

    yes

    short enough?
