How do you do maintenance on a whole house water filter?

I bought a Maytag whole house water filter that sits outside my house. I wish I never bought the crazy thing. it has a prefilter on it I do know how to change except I'm afraid I will bust the pex and want to know if there is an easy way to fix it. I am really wanting to know if anyone has experience replacing the liner in the main system

its pretty simple. turn off the main water. there should be a pressure release button. then unscrew the filter

Normally I fing opening the filter housing is a bit difficult so what I do is use a pull strap or chain. It is a handle with a leather or rubber strip that you pull around the ring and the pull it back past the handle and the use it to give leverage to open the ring. They use these type of things to get oil filters off a car. Otherwise you can use a leather belt in the same way. Just make sure you turn the correct way. You can do this by holding you thumb of your right hand to where it must go and follow the contour of your fingers. When it is off you replace the filter inside place the seal in place and tighten again. Make sure you turn the water off and release the pressure as it makes it difficult to remove.
