  1. Rolled hems are typically done on a serger now.  Sewing machines do narrow hems with the correct foot -- the best instructions for this are in Carol Ahles' book, Fine Machine Sewing; your local library probably has a copy.

    Personally, I find it fastest in many cases to do a hand rolled hem -- find a movie you've already seen and start rolling.
