Express each of the following in terms of a reference angle. A reference angle is the positive acute angle in reference to the x-axis. (For example, the reference angle for 30o, 150o, 210o, and 330o would all be 30o. Draw a picture to see it better.)

a) 185o b) 320o c) -145o d) -290o

e) 3π/4 f) -π

  1. you just have to subtract the given angles to either 0 deg, 90 deg, 180

deg, 270 deg or 360 deg since these are the angles of the reference

angles of the rectangular coordinate system. just subtract whichever is the nearest.

    a. 185-180= 5 deg

    b. 360-320= 40 deg

    c. -180- 145= 35 deg

    d. -290- 360= 70 deg

    e. 3π/4 is 135 deg so 180-135= 45 deg

    f. zero since it is already in line with 180 degrees

  2. a) 5o

    b) 40o

    c) 35o

    d) 70o

    e) π/4 radians

    f) 0 (its already on the x axis)
