How do you document volunteer hours?

I spent 8 hours helping my step dad (who works at my school) set up the stage for a school production. I wasn't officially recruited by the school to help, so how do I "document" the hours for college, etc.?

the place were you do the hours will sign a time sheet for you i did mine at a moose lodge

I would think that there would be some sort of log that your college provides. If not, you can make your own log and type in all the info about what you did, how long you helped, and who you helped and get your step dad to sign next to all of that info.
