  1. i am not an arab but i live in an arab country.i think the arabs boil some water and then add the coffee powder.the coffee i drank really was strong and bitter tasting (but i loved it) so i don't know whether they put sugar or not but maybe they do.the coffee is called kahwa here.

  2. First thing - you need a special Coffee pot called an "ibrik" - mine is made of copper and holds around 2 to 21/2 cups of liquid (it is a 2 cup (16 ounce).  These coffee pots are also known as "Turkish Coffee Pots" just as Arabic - Middle Eastern Coffee is known as "Turkish Coffee," or "Israeli  Coffee."  You will also need small demitasse coffee cups - which you can purchase just about anywhere because you also serve espresso in them and espresso has become quite popular.

The coffee used can be "Greek,"  "Turkish,"  or "Arabic."   You may  need a specialty coffee store or import deli type place to find what the coffee, but don't buy a huge amount -  because as you get good at making the coffee, you may want to experiment to find the brand of coffee that you like best.  Whatever type you buy, have it ground finely - tell your sales person it is for "Turkish coffee."

Put around 1 cup of cool fresh water in your ibrik. Add 5-6 teaspoons of coffee and half that amount of sugar.  In other words, if you use 6 teaspoons of coffee, use 3 teaspoons of sugar.  Place your ibrik over a medium flame (I have a gas stove - I think it makes better coffee than an electric stove goes because you can control the flame so much better on a gas stove) and begin watching the water - coffee mixture because within 6-8 minutes, you will see foam start to appear around the edge of the water.  BE CAREFUL to NOT let the mixture boil over the sides of the ibrk because you will have a mess!!!

Allow the mixture foam almost to the top of the pot, but pull the pot off the flame before it goes over the side.  Keep the coffee pot away from  the flame until the foam goes back down  to a near non-frothy state.  Then put the pot back on the flame - you will do this a total of 3 times.  After the third time, remove the ibrik from the stove all-together.

Lay out 5 demitisse cups - with a spoon, scoop out the froth and place 1/5 of it in each cup.  Then pour 1/5 of the coffee into each cup, including the thicky  dregs at the bottom of the ibrik.  The froth will remain at the top of the cup.  When you serve the coffee, ask everyone to hold off until they taste the coffee to add any more sugar because the sugar used to make it is usually enough.

Enjoy and you can serve a multitude of "Turkish" sweets with it.

  3. I am sorry I really wish I could help you.I am an Arab but I go to starbucks for my coffee lol.By the way 90% of the users here aren't even Arab/Middle-eastern I suggest you try Food & Drinks or go to any middle eastern section for better answers

  4. arabic coffee isnt sweet.. turkish is... dont confuse.. turkish is extremely strong and sugary and dark black and thick

arabic coffee is made with a lightly roasted coffee bean.. its a lighter bean than american coffee beans..

they are beige. and most arab housewifes buy the beans and grind them at home in a  spice or coffee grinder and add a bit of caradomon to it.. that gives it its distinctive "gahwa" flavor... the caradomom..

you boil up a few tablespoons of this in about 2 cups of water, then pour it into a vacuum flax *(like a thermos) and serve it in tiny coffee cups.. like finger cups to guests.. and its almost bittery tasting with the cardomom flavor,, but its an aquired taste.. it goes well with dates or other sweet pastries most arab hostesses serve at gatherings.. ^_^

  5. lol, i hope you get some kind comments!!

  6. Drink something else instead of middle Eastern Coffee, when i was in Suadi, they had some awful coffee.

    try some p**i chi,

  7. so you boil water, put two to three teaspoons of the arabic coffee, let it boil and then add sugar.

  8. saudi style

cardamoms and coffee powder to boil and no sugar

that is the way they drink it in saudi arabia

  9. STRONG, black or with very little soymilk, milk, or creamer, and ICE

    yummmmmm

  10. you do not have to be an Arab, nor a rocket scientist to be able to make a cup of Arabic coffee.  This coffee is strong so it is made in small amounts and people drink it in small cups.  Nowadays you can get the coffee already ground with the coffee itself and also the cardamon which is the spice that gives it a unique flavor.  Here is what you do.   Bring one cup of water to a boil (you can add sugar if you like, or drink it without) .  Take it off the heat and add 1 Tablespoon of coffee. Then return it to the heat and let it boil again.  and do this a total of three times, removing it each time it gets foamy.  Serve in Arabic coffee cups. Enjoy
