Question:

How do you dust your home?

I know this sounds like a crazy question. But quite frankly, I'm tired of dusting!!! I dust and within minutes it seems like it's back. I do have a dog so I know that and people can cause quite a mess. So I am looking for hints.

Is it better to use paper towels, cloths, newspaper? What type of dust spray is best?

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I am at my wits end. I can't stand looking at dust, but I can't get rid of it. We do have carpets and we did wash them about 4 months ago. I don't want to get rid of the carpets, which I know will be a suggestion. There has to be another way!! Thanks!!!!!

  1. I use a slightly-damp cloth to do my dusting. Since you apparently live in a naturally dusty area, you might want to look at getting some kind of anti-static spray and using that. Try washing your curtains and cleaning the filters to your heating and AC unit too, and cleaning or replacing the filters to your vacuum cleaner: A vacuum can kick up a lot of dust when something gets clogged.

If all of that doesn't work, you might even consider investing in an air cleaner unit and see if that helps pull dust out of the air.

    Good luck!

  2. Well, infrequently is my first answer.  But when I do dust, I use three things:  a lambs wool duster and take it outside often to shake it; the brush attachment on my hand-held Dirt Devil, because it vacuums the dust up instead of spreading it around (like for lampshades and stuff); and for decorative items that are delicate or intricate, I use a soft damp cloth and rinse it out frequently.

Also, I learned something a long time ago from a girl whom I thought was the last person who would know anything about house cleaning.  She said if you vacuum your carpet first, then when you dust you get everything the vacuuming stirred up.  Made so much sense, I wondered why I hadn't thought of it!!
