How do you edit Hi8 tapes?

You need the following.

1. Something to import video to your computer. Try a 'usb video capture device' (type this in yahoo search engine. Most of these already come with basic editing software.

2. Install the software.

3. hook camera up to device.

4. Push record on the software on the computer.

5.Hit the play button on your camera.

6. you will have to stop the recording when video is done.

7. Now you should just click and drag all the frames you just imported and drag them to the story board and cut and splice as you like.

Depending on how fancy of editing you want to do I recomend Power director its simple to use but has great effects and tools to use.

the traditional method is tape deck to deck. in fact Sony built a dual deck that had 2 slots, one for the play tape and the other for record.to make Hi8 editing easier. in any case it takes a special and expensive deck to be editing capable, which is one of the reasons everyone has switched to computer editing.  you will need an analog video capture card or use an upscale Digital8 that has Hi8 playback capability and firewire.
