you need a firewire cable (they're expensive like $20 I think) and a firewire port on your computer (1394) to go from the handycam to computer and capture and editing software like microsoft movie maker (in Accessories).  

If you're an indy film maker you probably want something more advanced like Adobe Premier and After Effects or Sony Vegas which is built for Sony handycams or Final Cut for Apple or Avid Xpress (Avid is what hollywood and TV use).

"HandyCam" is Sony's name for ALL their consumer camcorders.

MiniDV and Digital8 requires firewire (IEEE1394a, i.LINK and DV are all the same thing. Your computer needs a firewire port; you need to get a firewire cable.

Hard drive and Flash memory requires USB.

DVD requires a drawer loading DVD drive in your computer.
