My computer is acting weird

It freezes a whole lot and it has to be restarted

it is going very slow

Everytime I turn of my computer all the settings that I had programed before are gone

All my files are hidden

I highly suspect I have a virus and I would like everything erased from my computer so it could be just like when I first got it.

I dont want to damage anything though, but all the pictures and music are save on a external memory.

so How do I erase everything from my computer?

Do I need any special disks or programs once I reboot it?

Thanks

  1. You need to reformat your hard drive. I don't think it's something you can do, contact a local computer repair place.

  2. It does sound like a virus and your best bet at that stage would be to use the Windows Xp (or Vista) CD that came with your computer. If your computer didnt come with a reinstall disk then go out to the store and buy the operating system of your choice. If you do already have one put the CD in the drive and when you turn your computer on keep pressing F8 untill a menu appears, select the choice to boot from the CDrom drive and press any key to boot from CD. From there just follow the instructions to format and reinstall windows.

...And by the way, this PERMINITLY DELETES all files on the harddrive

    Good luck =)

  3. See here: http://www.DeBog.com

There is a page with instructions for various computer makes.

  4. It sounds like you don't know what you are doing so I would suggest you go to a specialist to help you so you can save everything!

  5. If you have files, you may want to save them to an external drive.

You need the disk that came with the computer.  Start computer with the original disk.  After it starts, you should be able to format the C: drive.  After the C: drive is formated, you can reinstall the software.
