How do you exactly do the Salah (prayer) on an aeroplane?

Please clarify and provide legal fatwas regarding this. Thank you. Salam.

As Salaam to you all,

There is no actual hadith about performing prayer on an aeroplane being as these did not exist at the time of the Prophet (pbuh). However, the schools of thought have all agreed the saying of prayers while riding a horse or a camel, from the hadith of the Prophet (pbuh).

Due to this ruling by all schools of thought, it can be translated to being in flight within an aeroplane as well. In that the person performing the prayer is travelling and cannot alight upon the ground to perform salat. The actions therefore are performed sitting and praying forwards from this position. The nice thing about all salat is the purity and simplicity of the actions and intentions.

The actual joining of different salat depends upon the time of day when it is performed. So do your salat according to the time within the aeroplane and be governed by that time until you land. Time differences may matter for travel but for salat it is what is within your power to do and what is within your heart that really matters.

Islam is simple but it is man that has made it difficult.

My father merely bends over his thighs during flight while he is seatbelted.  No problem.

Well the Qur'an teaches that prayers can be said while riding or moving.

Al-Baqarah Chapter 2 : Verse 240

If you are in a state of fear, then say your Prayers on foot or riding, but when you are safe, remember Allah as He has taught you that which you did not know.

I don't have the Hadeeth on me at this very point, but there are actual authentic Hadeeth that explain that direction doesn't matter so much when you're traveling and moving while prayer, but in fact we are able to shorten prayer as a mercy from Allah.
