I am joining the cheer leading team this school-year and their requirements are that we be 80 - 115 pounds. For the jumps and things to be "evened" out and so we don't kill each other.

When I exercise I look thinner BUT keep on gaining weight on the scale....... what can I do to lose weight on the scale? Like what can I do to be "lighter".

  1. do more cardio and use light weights for strength training, that way you will still get the benefits of strength training but you won't bulk up

  2. You need to do nothing but cardio.  You should not be weight training at all.  Your problem is that although you are losing weight by shedding fat you are gaining weght by building muscle.  Remeber the old saying that muscle weighs more than fat? So if you are losing an inch around your waist (lost fat) you might lose 5-10 pounds but if you gain an inch around your thighs (muscle from working out) you might be gaining 10-15 pounds).  What you need to focus on is low impact aerobics (jumping jacks, etc).  Running is always the best way to lose weight all over but if you want to try something new try kick boxing (or just regular boxing if you are up for it), jumping rope (sounds silly but this is one of the best exercises you can do to get in shape), swimming laps, etc. Make sure you are not using weights at all.  Cheer leading is a very physically demanding sport.  Your practices should be workout enough for your muscles.  Don't forget that you must eat right in order to lose weight.  This does not mean starving yourself.  This means eating when you are hungry just eating good foods. Lots of greens.  Grapefuit juice and celery are awesome snacks that will actually help you lose weight.  Also, stay away from salt.  It will make you retain water and thus heavier. Do this right and you will be in the best shape of your life.  Good luck and make sure to stick with it.  Nobody like doing cardio but the results are worth it.

  3. Well you are probably gaining weight because you are gaining muscle.

  4. diet n exercise, you cant lose weight with exercise only it proven to be impossible well for the average person i exercise every single day for 2 hours and i still gain weight if i dont eat right

  5. The simple answer is lose muscle.  That's what you're gaining during workouts and what's increasing the number on the scale.  Which is a good thing.

Muscle weighs more than fat, so the more muscle you have, the more you'll weigh.  A 100 pound muscular person (with a low body fat %) will look much thinner than a 100 pound person with a higher body fat %.  You might try cutting back any weight training and focus on cardio for a while.  This will help shed excess fat with minimal (as opposed to weight training) muscle gain.
