How do you exit the "Edge Service" on a cell phone?

My cell phone shows a icon that tells my Edge Service on my cell phone is on. How do you exit it? I wasn't even using the internet on my phone. It's just that few days ago I was checking my e-mails on my phone, and I exit the mobile e-mail thing, but the "Edge Service" icon still shows on my phone. I've been worry about it for many days, because I don't know it cost extra money if the edge service is on even if i wasn't using the internet on my phone.

dont panic its fine, that's just the carriers icon for the service zone u are in...u won't get charged trust me..if 3g shows on your phone then its a different service on your phone..and no your not roaming if u see the different icons...
