  1. To add or subtract fractions, the fractions need to have the same denominators.

    1/2 = 3/6

    1/3 = 2/6

    1/2 - 1/3 = 3/6 - 2/6 = 1/6

  2. 1/2 = 3/6

    1/3 = 2/6

    3/6 - 2/6 = 1/6

  3. Change the fractions so they have a common denominator.

    It will be 6.

    That makes

    1/2 into 3/6 and 1/3 into 2/6.

    You then do the subtraction..

    3/6 - 2/6 = 1/6

  4. You need a common denominator to add or subtract fractions

1/2 is the same as 3/6

1/3 is the same as 2/6

    1/2 - 1/3 is equal to 3/6 - 2/6

Subtract the tops and keep the bottom the same.

    (3-2) / 6

    1/6

    Hope this helps !

  5. u find the number that can be divide on the 2 and 3 and its 6 so u  do (6/2)*1 so u get 3/6 and you do (6/3)*1 so u get 2/6

    and it will be

    3/6 -2/6 = 1/6

  6. (1/2)*(3/3) = 3/6

    (1/3)*(2/2) = 2/6

    (3/6) - (2/6) = 1/6

there really isn't anything to explain, just show that you found common denominators

  7. Find the lowest common denominator. 2 and 3 have no common factors, so you can't reduce them, so you multiply and get 6.

    1/2 - 1/3 = 3/6 - 2/6 = 1/6

  8. = 1/2 - 1/3 Determine the LCD. LCD is 6 (2 * 3).

    = 3/6 - 2/6 Subtract the numerator of the 2nd expression

    = 1/6

    Answer: 1/6 is the difference.

    Checking (add back to 1/2):

    = 1/6 + 2/6

= 3/6 reduce to lowest terms

    = 1/2

  9. The common denominator of 1/2 and 1/3 would be 6.

Change 1/2 and 1/3 in terms of having denominator of 6

So times the numerator and denominator of 1/2 by 3.

Then times the numerator and denominator of 1/3 by 2.

    You get 3/6 and 2/6.

    3/6-2/6 =1/6

Remember: When both fractions have the same denominator, when subtracting, you only subtract the numerators :D
