I'm working on some math homework and I'm having some trouble with the following equation. Would it be possible to explain how it works?

49x2=1

(The two is a subscript, as in 49x to the second.)

  1. Question is 49(x ^ 2) = 1, now divide both sides of equation by 49, it will become, x^2 = 1 / 49

    (Note that dividing both sides will not deform the equation, LHS and RHS will remain equal because we have divided both sides by the same number)

    => x = 1 /7 and also x = -1 / 7 (two solutions of x are possible).
