For those of you who haven't heard, Toshiba dropped out!!!! Blu=Ray is the winner!!!

I'm glad because I have a PS3, and I sure as h**l didn't feel like getting a HD-DVD player too. On top of that I proved everybody in my old class wrong, once again. Plus now that Blu-Ray has one, it won't be long before every Mac and PC are equipped with one.

How do you feel about Sony winning?

For those of you who don't have a Blu-Ray player do you plan on getting one now?

  1. I knew that the blu-ray would win out, and I'm quite happy about it. The blu rays have the distinct advantage because they can hold more than the hd movies, so technically they had higher definition than hd discs because the quality of the movie is only limited by how much space is available on the disc (ex. you could fit hours of very low definition video on a 1 gig memory stick, but only a few minutes of very high def.) So it was inevitable that the blu ray would win out. Also, some people think prices will rise on blurays because there is less competion now, but that tis wrong. The makers of blu ray want EVERYONE to have a bluray player so that they will buy blu ray movies, thus making them more money than if they kept the prices high so that few people would buy the players, because they make a lot more money when everyones buying their discs rather than regular dvds.

  2. Well, im glad that a decision has been made.

I did not want to be stuck with a pricey paperweight so i was holding out on buying either of those. now i can buy a blu ray player.

Sony winning ..??? well doesnt matter much as they had lost out in the betamax Vs VHS battle, mayeb they did stuff differently this time marketing wise.

Most of all i'm glad that i did not succumb to temptation and buy a toshiba laptop with the HD player.

  3. Sony should not have won. How are Toshiba and Samsung so stupid. Now Sony can control them since they all use their technology. Expect Blu-Ray prices to rise.

  4. Blu-ray wins and the consumer loses. Although HD discs were lower capacity, Blu-Ray are more fragile and more expensive to make. HD technology was less expensive with equal or better quality content wise. Blu-ray has always been more expensive and now has no reason not to stay that way. I refuse to pay $300.00 - $400.00 for a single disc Hi-def player, so I will not be buying a Blu-Ray. I will get all the HD DVDs that I want in my library at pennys on the dollar and my upconverting 6 disc DVD player will take care of the movies I can't get in HD. The key to Blu-Rays victory was without a doubt the PS3. I'm happy without Blu-Ray and sad to see the affordable HD bite the dust.

  5. Why do people talk about Sony won... If people didn't buy Blu-ray products then it would never have a chance...

10 million customers whom brought Blu-ray players won the format war for Sony.

3 million customers for HD-DVD lost it for Toshiba.

The consumer picked which they wanted!

As for "A prise rise" now they Blu-ray will become very common around the world Samsung Toshiba Sony and others will be trying to sell you their products... the prise can only DROP at this point. Economics 1 o 1.

  6. You backed the right horse man.

I have a ps3 too and now I can rest easy now that blu-ray will live on. It is the better choice. Thanks to people like us buying the ps3's which are superior to every game console out there, the HD format which can be played is not going away. Xbox was dumb to not have HD built in to it. All Xbox was going for was cheap, which also happens to make it's technology inferior and more unreliable.

The experts say that in the future, ps3 will dominate all other systems. I think it's true. Maybe now that blu-ray won we can get more and better games, which is a plus.

Blu-ray was not more expensive than HD dvd and it had much more capacity on the discs. People who say the discs are fragile should take more care and not just chuck them around the room. This is obviously much better for gaming because more room on the disc mean more room in the games for improvement. Good luck with your c**p Xbox users, you made the wrong decision in the end.

And for those who say it's bad for the consumer, it isn't. This is because there are more companies than just sony who can produce blu-ray players. It's no monopoly on blu-ray technology. This means more competition which will lead to better things, like maybe lower prices.
