Question:

How do you feel about cat owners doing this?

Today I watched on the news that some cat owners are using DOG flea and tick shampoo on their cats, when it clearly states on the bottle NOT to use it on cats.

The cats ended up being taken to the vets office, due to salivating, twitching, having seizures, and some ending up dying.

Isn't it common sense to use the correct shampoo for each pet?

I think it is bad ownership.

  1. Probably they are just ignorant and think if they use less of it it won't hurt their animals. Besides, cats hate water!

  2. Wow!  How said that people just cannot be bothered with reading directions!  Yes, it is common sense to use the correct shampoo for each pet.  You are right - it is bad ownership!

  3. There are things out there that are the same medication for dogs and cats and some things that are even the same for people too.  But certainly not everything and you have to extremely careful with the dosage if you're going to use a vet approved dog or human medication for a cat.

It's careless and very upsetting.  Some people just don't seem to get that flea shampoo is dangerous and needs to used correctly.

Use of all medicines and chemicals need to follow their guidelines.  Some people pop pain pills and cold medicines entirely too frequently too.  All those guidelines are there for a reason for people and animals, you have to be very careful about what you put in and on your body and in and on your pets' bodies.

It's really sad that this happened.

  4. i think that is very sad.  my cats are like my kids to me and I can't imagine people being dense enough to do this!

  5. Thats Insane and inhumane one time my mom did it ut the store owner said it was okay for cats but it had a huge sign on it to not to use on cats i think that person just wanted more money and it was the cat me and my brother spent $90 when we were 8.

  6. That is bad owner ship, and plane stupididty, Cuz if you can read, then you can read the bottle where it clearly states DOG flea and tick shampoo. And NOT to use it on cats.  Yes i think it is common sense to use the correct shampoo for each pet, cuz i know alot of shampoos have a picture on them, for like cats, for cat shampoo. so you have to be pretty stupid to that.

  7. yea, it is common sense. i dont even give my cat baths. i only brush them. they dont get muddy cuz theyre indoor. as for fleas, in my cats 10 years of life, hes never gotton fleas.

  8. whoever is doin that is messed up.

  9. I don't think I would even use a product with such side effects on a dog... yikes

What if you have a dog smaller than a typical cat?

My cat would rip my harm off if I tried to give him a bath... especially today, not sure why so cranky...
