Some states allow teenagers to drive at an early age such as 14. How do you feel about that fact while other states are making their teenagers wait? Do you think the driving age limit should be increased or decreased?

  1. 16 would be good with many hours of training.

  2. I actually think the age limit should be higher. teenagers account for a high percentage of highway accidents. It's not prejudice, it's statistical fact. I think you should be able to get a permit at 21, and a full license when you're 25.

  3. No I think that each State should be allowed to set there own age restrictions. In some states like montana where there is a lot of open road its okay for a 15 year old to get a license, but other states like New York a much busier state, I dont think it okay for a 14 year old to drive. Each state is different, so thats why its a state law and not a national law.

  4. I have almost been into alot of accidents because some little teenagers (not all are bad) are not paying attention, and older people with years of experience who have been on said road a million times,  dont know where they are going. People are going to do whatever they want to do and politicians are going to change laws to appease stupid people.

  5. The idea of being able to drive at 14 (under a Learner's Permit) is to allow a young person to drive with a parent for a couple of years to gain skill and experience while being supervised by mom or dad.

Personally I feel this is too young for most (not all) persons learning to drive.

I prefer to see persons taking their road tests at age 18, when they have matured a bit more.

  6. I think you should be at least 18 to be able to drive and I also think that you should be required by law to take a new road driving test every 5 years to make sure you are still qualified and I also think there should be a max age cause no offense to old people but some drive so fast some so slow its too dangerous since their reaction times are slow.

  7. Increase for sure all states.................

    JUNE 2008

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2006 (latest data available) crashes involving 15 to 17 year olds cost more than $34 billion nationwide, in medical costs, property damage and other costs, according to an AAA analysis.

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens

  8. It depends on the state, and the traffic congestion on the roads...in California as a for instance it is VERY congested - therefore very dangerous, and I think a good idea for teens to be more mature before getting behind the wheel.

In states where towns are few and far between - probably not as big a deal - but then again, I hear they drink alot in those small towns..so it's probably a good idea everywhere..

    Maturity is a good thing...

(But as a sidebar, I also think senior citizens should be tested as well...)
