I find it very hypocritical because one of the easiest things that can be done to save the planet is to go vegetarian. If you aren't familiar with the topic, here are two links to some facts about meat and it's effects on the enviornment. What are your opinions?

  1. i disagree with anyone who eats meat

  2. I do agree with ED on the fuel, but I also feel that you can not eat meat and be an environmentalist.

  3. At this point, I don't think we should bash anyone who is willing to bring publicity to the environmental cause. We need all the help we can get, we have government officials saying global warming doesn't exist, and that the solution to the gas prices is to drill for more oil. Anyone who can use their fame to get gluttonous Americans to pay attention to environmental issues should be praised, not criticized!

  4. Yes, it is hypocritical.

It reminds me of the Green Peace days where at one time there was a room full of Green Peace activists, alongside many other people from other groups all focusing on different aspects of saving the world from human destruction.  One group pointed out to the Green Peace people (who were basically just eating the typical N. American diet) just how the food on the table in front of them at that very moment was affecting the world around them, not to mention their personal health.  They found it mind-blowing.

So, sure, they were leading a hypocritical lifestyle, but they were totally oblivious to it.  They really had no idea until someone pointed it out and it clicked in their brain... they understood the connection(s).

Some people just have not connected it in their brain.  Food has the largest impact of anything else we humans do to the planet, but it's SO widespread and has so infected the planet that we cannot see it... but we can see the trees being cut down or the animals being killed, but the impact of what you just ate... is unseen.

  5. I appreciate their efforts, but I'm aware that their lifestyles don't match their ethics.  You simply cannot be an environmentalist non-vegetarian.

That said, I'm not interested in judging the ethics of others'.

  6. i dont have a problem with people like that because i am one of those people, not eating meat will not save the planet, it is normal to eat meat because of the food chain, if people stop eating meat then the planet would become overpopulated but i do not believe in killing animals for anything but that and i also do not believe in torturing animals before they kill them and i will not eat meat from companies that do that

  7. I am offended with them flying around in private jets, while telling us to use less fuel.

  8. Hypocrisy:

Hypocrisy is the act of condemning or calling for the condemnation of another person when the critic is guilty of the act for which he demands that the accused be condemned.

  9. How do u "save the planet" by avoiding the meat section of the supermarket?

I think we have hordes of information to suggest that meat is important for humans. Not everyone eats it, due to personal opinion and beliefs. But I really don't think combating environmental damage is about depriving people of aspects of life which, in many sources, is good for them. I mean, adopting your line of thought, maybe we should live without lights, avoid showering, walk to hospitals 50 kilometres away when we are sick. I think the reasoning is quite clear. Saving the planet does not mean depriving people of necessities. Neither is there anyone in this world who can claim that all their actions do not adversely effect the environment. Unless you live in the bush, farm your needs and you avoid hospitals because they use electricity.
