Does it bother you that people may be in the home other than the provider, that you don't know?

  1. A good question.  I've done the center and I'm presently doing family child care.  Here is my opinion.  There are good centers and there are awful centers and it's the same for family child care...good and awful.  Whenever possible I let my families know when there are going to be adults around.  More often than not they get to meet the people.  I also take the attitude that this is my JOB...I do not entertain people during my work hours.  If there is someone here for some reason or another...they are put to work or (sadly LOL) ignored.  The kids come first.

If your center or home does not allow families to come and visit anytime during the day... be concerned.  Also, ask for a daily activity log...daily schedule.  Most good ones will have them.

  2. It does not matter if it is a home daycare, private day care or a national day care, you still need to know who will be around your  child and what the daily schedule is. You need to be able to visit at any time that your child is there without calling first. All of these daycare facilities should be licensed and inspected regularly. Most of all ask questions and show up often.

  3. that is very great

  4. Yes, that is why you should tell any prospective care worker that it is important to you that they tell you who will be present during the care of your child.

A day care provider in my neighborhood would often leave the kids with her mentally challenged teenage son who like to start fires!  Scary.  Once the parents found out...she was shut down.

  5. Home daycare providers are better than regular daycares from my experience.  I love the family feeling and I honestly hadn't thought about other people coming into the home. the person you hire is responsible for your children so they should be responsible as well for the people allowed to be in the home.   Noone should ever be left alone with your children for any length of time without your consent.  Make sure that is very clear when you hire.
