How do you feel about homemade gifts? ?

I am never very into them unless it's something amazing like a handmade blanket or hand needle pointed table cloth. I hate receiving crafty things like scarves that never get worn or crafty jewelry... I am an artist so I guess I am a bit snotty about those things. I also hate crafty stuff- like someone made little fabric pouches and filled them with hot chocolate and tied them with ribbon. I thought that was highly gross since I know how fabric is made and treated with chemicals. I know it's the thought that counts but I feel guilty not liking it, I don't want the stuff and then I give it to good will and feel even more guilty.

How about you? Love it or hate it?

  1. To me...homemade gifts are the best gifts that you could receive. They come from the heart. That means someone actually took the time to think about you and make you something with their own 2 hands instead of just running out to some store and buying something!! I know everyone is different so I am not criticizing you..but to me..I would love to receive any gift that is homemade!! Hope I helped

  2. I don't hate any gift I get as it is the thought that counts.  Maybe you might just tell people you would rather not exchange gifts and then you wouldn't have anything to complain about.

  3. Homemade gifts can be great though you are right sometimes people go to far.  Accept what they give you and keep it.  You do not have to wear it, decorate with it, or use it at all.  What matters is that they thought about you and made you the gift.  Throw it out after a few months if you wish but you need to learn to appreciate what people give you.  No matter how stupid it is.

  4. I give homemade gifts a lot but I'm an artist and the things I make are nice and my family is always trying to beg things from me the rest of the year so I guess they like them.

I do understand how you feel when you get a crappy little craft thing that someone, who doesn't pay attention to details, gives you...I think...what the he11 am I going to do with this and how can I pretend to like it?  The things end up in the junk drawer for a year or so until I toss it out because I wouldn't give it to good will....they wouldn't want it either.

  5. i love receiving homemade gifts,i think the person put much more time and effort into a homemade gift than if they would just pick up a gift card ..i mean i love gift cards to but i think a homemade gift just means more

  6. I love receiving homemade presents.  You know that the person who gave it to you put a lot of work into it instead  of just going to the store and buying you a meaningless gift.  I think it is very rude that you just take the gifts to good will after someone took the time to make it for you.  Also the fabric pouches with the hot chocolate is a cute idea and wouldn't of hurt you in anyway.   I think I might use that idea for gifts this year for my family.  I know they would appreciate them.

  7. I am a crafty type person but don't make crafty gifts for just anyone because of the very thing you mention. I'm a bit of a snob that way myself about receiving crafty gifts, partly *because* I make stuff.  Like one year my MIL made a photo collage of the Disney vacation we took them and framed it...nice effort and all but I'm a scrapbooker. The photos were horrid quality (scans from prints from a disposable camera-really, really grainy) and if I'd wanted something along those lines I'd have done it myself.

I sympathise with what you're saying!
