  1. In the year 2008 we are 100% capable of drilling for oil in a environmental friendly fashion.

Also it is a fact that the oil rigs themselves provide sanctuary for dozens of species wherever they they are installed,( texas california alaska ect...)

Besides we are in a oil crisis in the u.s.a and if we do not secure that oil other countries are talking about drilling at angles from international waters to get the oil we won't!!

So we can do it clean and by our own means or let the filthy mexican or chinese govts do it!

  2. Texas beaches are sometimes a mess mostly from offshore boats dumping their garbage and the tide washing in seaweed.  Our beaches can never look like your beaches or your lovely water.  There are only a few times we have tar balls.

I think you guys can handle a few tar balls.

  3. I think that politicians are using drilling as a band-aid that obscures the real issue at heart. Oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico will supply our oil need for a little longer, but what happens when that runs out?

We need to start thinking seriously as a society about alternative and sustainable means of producing energy. Otherwise, we will just keep repeating the cycle of energy prosperity and then desperation that has been occurring for the past fifty years.

Plus, the proposed plans for drilling off the coast will only produce enough oil to lower prices by about 20 cents per gallon. Considering the massive economic, social, and ecological costs if something were to go wrong, the costs outweigh the benefits on this issue.
