  1. If you parceled out all the land in the world, every man woman & child would have about 1 acre of farmable land to farm and another 4 acres to live on.  Just so you know 1 acre of farmland produces about 5000 pounds of corn every 3 months.  1 acre of rice field will produce 8000 pounds of rice.  Food isnt the problem...its just getting enough farmers to plant and getting it distributed.

  2. there is no overpopulation.  there is only a need to improve unimproved land to make it more inhabitable, and a need for sources of energy.

the very question of overpopulation begs the question of an answer; and the answer will mean either a police state (ie - China and the "one child policy", or Hitler's attempt to make room for aryans) or massive depopulation through intentional war, famine, poisoning, or murder.

This question of overpopulation begins to build a case for social darwinism and eugenics; things the Ford, Rockefeller and Carnegie Foundations may be proud of, but it spells doom for millions.

  3. It's a myth.  Look at Europe.  They're importing people.

  4. They way I look at it, the world is like a giant petri dish, we are the bacteria inhabiting it, our growth will start slow, exponentially increase, hit an inflection point, and the growth will begin increasing at a decreasing rate. I think the world's population will control itself. When resources get limited, less people will have kids, more people will die, and an equilibrium will develop. I am not a population scientist, though. However, this question was in the Economics Forum.

How does my answer bring you to believe I have no life? Please elaborate.

  5. Never thought about it.

I dont really think it will ever be a problem. :)

  6. It's a doom-and-gloom fantasy that ignores the ingenuity of humans.  The atoms in your body were on Earth at the beginning and will be here long after you're gone.  Look around.  Earth has A LOT more atoms from which to make humans.

  7. I learned that economist (and I am not one) think the population growth have 2 main, but inverse effects.  For one, the more people there are, the more scientists and engineers there are....this is obviously a good part of population growth and it's very hard to argue that that opinion doesn't have merit.  The other is that the more people you have, the more people you have to produce...but the more people you have to produce for.  So, land, being limited, causes us to have problems producing in an over populated country or city.  SO, basically, it's a matter of the degree of population growth.  And over population is obviously bad.

  8. the earth can handle billions and billions more.

    the problems are pollitical.

i dont know where you live but i bet that all you have to do is drive about 30 min and you will be in a very unpopulated area.
