Question:

How do you feel about poor old Melbourne's efforts tonight?

Do you think that Geelong might have backed off a bit now that they have a strong lead? Despite how it looks on paper, I really thought that the Demons might have taken it up to the Cats tonight. I feel very sorry for the Demons struggles at the moment. It's terrible to see the oldest club in the comp in such a compromising position. Do you think that Jimmy Stynes and co can save them or are they past the point of no return? Gee i hope not, for the sake of the history of this great game of ours...

  1. I feel sorry for Melbourne but it looks more and more like they will get the wooden spoon instead of the Eagles so I can't be too sorry.

  2. well they will never drop out of the afl because of the history thing

they have already copped enough for getting rid of fitzroy and they wont do it again

whether or not they start winning again is another thing

who knows.. maybe 10 years on the bottom will get them 10 #1 draft picks and then they could start winning?? unless they change the draft system which i have heard..

    i think

  3. You've gotta wonder what these guys, professional athletes, are getting paid for I guess!

  4. Melbourne are a mob of losers that should not be still in the competition. They are an embarrassment & the AFl should do something about winding them up.

    good riddance to bad rubbish.

  5. Impossible to expect any team to 'back off' - they just aren't trained to be like that.

I expected exactly what the result was...a thrashing.

Its a sad night for Melbourne and its supporters - but im sure they will bounce back in a few years when they re-group and build the team up again.

  6. It would be funny if they weren't so pathetic...

  7. **I couldn't agree with you more.  Even though everyone was expecting Geelong to win I actually thought it might have been a closer game.

Being at the game, I felt sorry for the Melbourne supporters as it was clear within about the first three goals that it was going to be a blow out.

After quarter time I felt that Melbourne started to play a bit better and although they got thrashed if they had of continued to play like they had in the first quarter, Geelong could have won by about 200 points.

I hope that Jimmy Stynes and the board can help save the club.  They need help at the moment and I think it'd be so sad to see Melbourne go past the point of no return.  I think it'd be sad to see any club at that point, but really sad for the one of the original teams.**

  8. ohhh it was horrible watching it !

of course they are gonna stay in the league! they dont just get rid of teams for being on the bottom of the ladder 4 a bit..

  9. The cats don't back off, they have trained hard to play 120 minutes of hard running relentless footy, plenty more pain to come for the demons tonight

  10. its funny watching melbounre gettinfg pleted lol

  11. I agree with you, I feel sorry for the Dees. I thought that they would at least try, and I actually thought that they wouldn't get thrashed! Boy, was I wrong!

  12. Turned the TV on a few moments ago to see the score, and couldn't really believe it.

Yeah I know its Gelong V Melbourne, 1st V last, etc etc

But but 100 points up by 3/4 time?

The funniest (?) thing was when Channel 7 panned across the ground, and you could see the stands almost completely empty.

I really do feel for Melbourne. As one of the oldest and original clubs, they have a long and proud history, and it would be a disgrace to see them leave the comp.

But what can the AFL do, to prevent such one sided games?

  13. Being a Geelong fan I was thrilled with the outcome, however, my heart goes out to all the Demon fans.... I thought the demons looked like they were holding Geelong off better in the 2nd quarter just a pity the end result was...... Demons will eventually find their form and pick up, every team has had those years of being in a slump, this year (and last year) it's been the demons.....

  14. melbourne knew it was coming, and they won't disappear the AFL will wait until the last minute then fix it up.Do people really think the powers that be will let one of the founding clubs of the game vanish?? we have such a dominant game in the country letting them vanish will be 10 steps back not forward

  15. Poor club, their playings arent applying the usual pressure they would apply just a couple of years ago when they were up in the mighty top eight, i hope that they rebuild and are a strong club within the next couple of years.

I feel bad for them because along with tonight they have kicked the lowest score in history in a first quater, also in 1974 they kicked:

    Melbourne 0.0 0.1 0.1 0.2

Poor club, i hope ol jimmy stynes does what he can & revs them up, and helps them to build into a wonderful club once aagin

  16. fortunately I missed the whole game .. was out getting my hair cut... BUT ... It didn't surprize me .. .and even as a Melbourne supporter I wouldn't expect any team to back down once they have a strong lead.. the bigger the win for any team the better for that team.

I would hope that Jimmy stynes will be able to save the club .. he's very appreciative of the opportunities playing for the club gave him and I believe is why he's so passionate about trying to save the club.

It would be a tragic event if the AFL allows Melbourne to fold when they are prepared to promote another AFL team interstate in states that STILL aren't really huge AFL followers....It is NOT because i am a melbourne supporter I feel that way .. .As I know I would feel the same way if Geelong was in the same position and I know I would hate to see the Pies fold ( despite what so many other club's supporters say .. can you really imagine the AFL without the Magpies.

The Old Brigade shouldn't have made Danniher leave .. That gutted the heart from the players and it has definitely taken it's toll.

But ... Hopefully .. .There's always NEXT season .. so long as there is ALWAYS a next season for Melbourne. :(

  17. I loved it.

In fact I love watching any Melbourne based team getting flogged!

  18. Donkey d**k, are you sure you're not a jackass?

Melbourne administration must have realised the threat that the Eaglas were to their Wooden Spoon aspirations, and took a dive to bottom out their percentage. Will the Dees bounce back??? Will West Coast do the same for Essendon???

Next Saturday is the acid test. A win by Melbourne sees them risking bottom spot. Interesting?
