Question:

How do you feel about roadcourse ringers?

I personally dont like that road course drivers get put into cars that already have drivers in them. As an owner I feel like they are telling their drivers, "hey your good for every other track we race one, but umm, i wanna chance to win so take the weekend off because you dont need this expierence anyway"

Even though they are helping the owner points, they are killing the driver points.

Nothing against the roadcourse drivers, just more about a little frustration toward the owners.

Thoughts?

  1. I believe if you qualify your in. The only reason a ringer hasn't won is like Ganassi did with Scott a couple years ago told him not to pass, stay in second and block. So he did . Scott has had it won a couple of times. Once the Rainbow Weenie ( Jeff Gorden ) took him out. He blocked a couple times and took second a few more times. Ganassi is doing it for money and points. For the first time a ringer is going in a high profile car. Fellows is driving the # 8 for TEI that's for a road course win for her..   Sincerely Racenut20

  2. Scott Pruett is sitting in for Reed Sorenson and I like Reed so it kind of sucks. Sabatas Racing is going to have two ringers in there now. Pruett and Montoya. Plus he's concerned because there like 32nd(?) in owners points going into Sonoma so I can understand why but that's too bad for Reed.

  3. It's bad for some of the younger drivers because they never will get experience if they are always replaced.

I do love it though, when the best champion road course drivers get beaten by redneck drivers in a non sport who pee their pants and can't even turn right.

  4. The road course drivers never win the nascar road course races.  A1 and Indy drivers may have more experience on road courses, but they have no experience in a nascar ride.  BUt I agree, it hurts the nascar drivers in points.

  5. it doesn't matter none of the "hired guns" can beat SMOKE anyway!!!!! GO SMOKE first win of the season 6/22 at sonoma then the rest of the field better watch!!!! time for tony to gooooooooooooo!

  6. well in that sense yeah i don't like them... i agree that they are booting out good drivers and my thing is how are these drivers ever supposed to learn to race well on a road course? they never have a chance to race... but i think it is nice to have experienced drivers like them on the track though none of them have won in years

  7. Scott Pruett is from a few miles where I live now and this is his home track race in NASCAR.  I hope he wins.

See ya at Sears Point!  Traffic is going to suck!!!!!!!!  yuck!

  8. i have nothing against roadcourse "ringers" who come in and race for their own teams and try to quality without necessarily pulling a regular from his ride.  in particular, i'm speaking of boris said.  but until one of them actually manages to win a road course race (i haven't seen one win recently, if you don't count montoya, who was a regular by then), i'm for leaving the regulars in and letting others who want to race qualify alongside the regulars - if they get in, they get in.

  9. If you researched deeply enough, you might find that some of the regulars who are replaced for the road course races are quite happy to let someone else handle the chore. Road courses require a completely different set of skills that some drivers don't have or don't care to have.

Just about all of them have this spelled out in their contracts, so for most of them, it's not a surprise, nor is it disrespectful to their talent. It's just business.

  10. Well not all of them take another drivers car like Boris Said and Colin Braun, Jack just adds another car for that week! But I don't guess I have a problem with them jumping in the seat for a driver that ain't good at Road Courses!

  11. The use of the ringers has been around since the 60's when the drivers like Parnelli Jones and Dan Gurney would run the Riverside event.

Today the "sport" has become a business and the business is winning the sponsor so mid ti filler teams will pick up a ringer and put in their car and give a lame  excuse that the regular drive needed extra coaching so this ringer was brought in to help develope the regular driver,"BULL COOKIES".If a team wants to coach their driver and use a "ringer" then they should enter another car.

Give the regular driver a chance. The ringers on the road corse is as bad as CUP drivers running in the NATIONWIDE series, eitherway it is not right.

But if a team wants to use a ringer then add a second car to the race.

  12. i feel the same way as you. i think the team owners should let the drivers race even if they aren't good road racers because it would make them better the more they race road courses. it's pretty much saying that the owner doesn't think you are a good enough road course driver so they are going to bring someone who can get them a better finish.

  13. I think ringers shouldn't be allowed to run in a car that already has a driver. Just think what that does to the driver when he has to sit out a race,it can't be good for his morale ! It's just like saying sorry your not good enough !
