  1. Because of technology and business economics, the world is not only "shrinking " but countries, cultures and people are becoming more interconnected. We now need to be able to communicate on a world wide basis. A second language helps us to do that. A person that is bilingual will be an asset to any company doing business in another country.

On the social  and cultural side, knowing another language helps one understand other cultures and enhances traveling.

  2. I feel it depends on the students ages. If they have mastered english then I feel it's a good idea to learn a second language. It may benefit them later on in life as far as business opportunities go. If they were to travel a lot to other countries it could always help them communicate with the locals there. It makes u sound more educated as well I believe. Take care.

  3. I think all students should learn at least one other language.  It's very arrogant to think that your own language is the only one that matters enough to learn, especially if you want your children to travel and/or be very successful in the near future when the main language in the US is not English.

  4. Learning a second language will help students understand the culture more and they learn about word rules and tenses and stuff, because they don't really have to think about that when they speak their own language. It also helps when they want to get a job, because if they speak Spanish for instance, it will benefit them and the person who hired them because they can communicate with clients who may speak Spanish better and they'll get more Spanish clients. So basically, it will help them in the future with their careers.

  5. A second language is a terrific idea!  I think it should start with pre-school age! Students who speak another language can help their peers in class! IN my opinion, Sign Language is very important! So many people know it and more should learn it!

  6. I'm kind of indifferent about students learning a different language, truthfully, I hate trying to learn Spanish and would rather learn French(for my own enjoyment), but I see the need for Spanish. I agree with a previous poster about sign language, so many people are having to use sign language and with the elderly becoming more and more among us, more disabilities among them (as well as the children) are learning sign language, thus us needing to learn to communicate with them. I would love to learn sign language from a classroom experience.
