  1. sure good idea

but hold onto 2 them for a while b4

    mailing it back

each envelope that is returned is counted as "a success" to the company. These "successful returns" are used to determine the effectiveness of the mail solicitation.

so put them in a box and mail them a few months later

  2. Simple.  Just go down to the post office and opt out of receiving mail.

  3. Do not open it. Write "Return to sender" on the envelope and hand it back to the mailman.

It may be possible to fill out a general rejection declaration at the Post office.

Isn't there some law in the USA about sending junk mail? Use that to defend yourself.

  4. What a fantastic idea! I bet that would cut down on the amount we receive. I read somewhere that over our lifetime we spend about 3 years opening up junk mail! Wow. There are services that you can subscribe to that can eliminate junk mail, my only concern is how secure are they?

  5. I just put it with my newspaper and into the recycling bin outside.

Dont want to send back anything as the people who send it may see it as an indication you are interested and then send you more- and then contact thier mates who will also send you junk mail.

  6. Good idea!  I might actually do that...lol.

  7. Great idea.  They inconvenience you, do it back!

  8. I've done it.  If you really want to have some fun with it (without being illegal of course), stuff the mail back in the pre-paid envelope, but inside the contents, add some glitter, or confetti.  When they open it, it goes EVERYWHERE!  And then on one of the pieces of paper inside, write "Compliments of Your Disgruntled Recipient".

  9. That's the best idea i've heard in a long time!! It should be advertised!!

  10. in Canada if you scratch out your name on the envelope[ don't open the junk mail ]and then write on the envelope RETURN TO SENDER and place back into the mail box Canada Post will re deliver the junk mail to the original sender and they are charged close to 5.00 for the returned junk mail.I have been doing this for years and trust me I am not getting half the junk mail that my neighbours get. When these companies have to pay when they get this stuff back you get taken off their mailing lists REALLY quick

  11. Great IDEA....talk about going "POSTAL"  lol

  12. Usually the place that receives the mail is different from the place that sends it so your effort, while noble, is usually not effective.

Sometimes writing a do not send letter will help, but really I say just toss the stuff and get on with the more important things in life.

  13. i'm with you on this one!

  14. While it may be satisfying, all you are doing is inconveniencing your mail carrier. The envelopes are pre-paid, and how long does it take some schmo to toss your thing in the trash?  The same for people who put "return to sender" on junk mail, my mail carrier says stuff like that gets tossed before it even gets back to the post office usually.

IMHO you are just wasting even more of your time and energy  trying to fight this, just put a trash can next to your mail box/slot and toss it as it arrives. I mean, basically you are suggesting fighting junk mail by sending more junk mail, how is that going to help? Give your mail carrier a break. :)

  15. Tear the junk mail into little pieces first. That adds insult to injury. Also, leave your name and mailing address intact. They get the message AND pay for the privilege.

  16. Great Idea!

  17. i do it all the time.  The companies that send all that junk don't get charged if you don't send that envelope, but as soon as you do they have to pay.  Sometimes just for the h**l of it I'll send an empty envelope, just to p**s them off.

  18. That sounds like a great idea maybe they will stop sending it when they finally realize that no one reads it anyways and they are just wasting valuable money and time on it.

  19. Me too.Can we really do that? Hey thats a great idea.!! Thanks for the great question.

  20. i do it every day  ididnt know any one else did that!!

  21. I either send one company's flier in another company's pre-paid envelope or just send the envelope empty. Only put enough in the envelope to give it a decent weight.   I shred anything with my information on it.

  22. i bundle it up in the summer and burn it to keep warm in the winter.

i have rolled up a month of junk mail and sent it to one big junk mailer collect

another trick if you have a p o box  is to take out your mail and take all the junk mail put it back in your p o box and push it through till it falls on the floor.

after a while the mail guy will stop putting the junk that is labled "to postal recipient" and other labels that do not have you name on them.

they learn  or keep having to pick it up off the floor.

  23. That's a great idea. I think I will try that next time.

  24. I do that all the time, just make sure you don't fill out your information. This way, they have to pay for the return postage and when they open the envelope, it's their papers, without any thing filled out.
