How do you feel about the Japanese and Stoic defense and at times tradition of ritual suicide?

Do you think that one's life can be valued in the effectiveness of its end and its continuation of tradition, or do you believe that life is always precious? How do you feel about the following quote from Albert Camus: "Martyrs, cher ami, must choose between being forgotten, mocked, or made use of. As for being understood - never!"? Do you think that all those who committed ritual suicide in the past have done so in vain? I believe this to be a complicated issue and one that is dogmatically dismissed all too quickly, especially given the large volumes of people who choose to take their own life yearly. Please grace us with your thoughts.
