Plumb Island is a real island where the Government has done research on DEADLY, and HIGHLY CONTAGEOUS livestock diseases for years.

Now the Government wants to move this facility to the continenal U.S. Georgia, Kansas, and Long Island are all in the running to have this facility built on their ground. They will be testing diseases like hoof & mouth on living animals.

Human hospitals cannot even control the spread of flesh eating bacterias. Eventually disesase always escapes from the type of facilities.

How do you feel about the lab being built on the mainland, and the possible devistation of the Nations ENTIRE livestock supply ?

  1. Well, it is obvious how you feel about it. My self, I really haven't made up my mind yet. I've read a lot about moving the lab from Plum Island, both from your point of view and the advantages of moving it. Homeland Security said that the Island is not secure and is susceptible to terrorists threat. This would be far more devastating than a leak. There are several states competing to get the new facility. There many experts that say the new facility will be far more secure and techniques have vastly improved over the old lab.  Texas is leading the competition to win the new lab: Kansas, Georgia, North Carolina and Mississippi are also vying for the 520,000-square-foot facility, which is scheduled to be operational by 2014.

The Texas pitch, which is being coordinated by UT-San Antonio, the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and several research foundations, has a bastion of support – everyone from Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. John Cornyn to cattle raisers at the fabled King and Briscoe ranches.  That is a strong message to me that the new lab would be safer than the old one. The problem is separating the facts from the politics, and so far I can not do that. The next problem is that no matter how you or I feel about it, it won't make any difference. Politics will or will not get the lab moved as they want and we will have to live with it.

Edit: I'll give Just Me a thumbs up just for the picture.

  2. It s good to do that

  3. I think even considering it is completely absurd. In all the articles I have read about this I have yet to see the reason why. Other than accessibility. I think it should be left where it is. There has not been any serious outbreak here since when? 1920 something? Bringing that to the mainland will make it more accessible to other people and animals... Not to mention the nut cases who may try to "dominate the world" and try to break into the place... Leave it where it is... The people in the current location have dealt with it this long... and keep it away from our livestock.
