How do you feel about this quote?

"Absence is to love what wind is to fire; it extinguishes the small and inflames the great." (unaccredited)

i know what it means, but now i want your opinion. how do you feel about this quote? is it true? have you ever experienced it? i want to know the truth, what you think about when you read these words, what you feel deep down.

Well I kind of like it.  I have seen instances of both (extinguished relationships and inflamed relationships caused by long distance).  

For instance, my ex and I were totally torn apart by long distance.  It just ruined us BUT that's probably b/c we weren't good together to begin with.  I'm glad when I look back and realize that it was for the best that we broke up.  So I guess we were a small extinguished love.

My roommate's mom and sister had a long distance relationship w/ their now husband.  The mom met the dad just once and he had to move back to TX and leave her in TN.  He called her after 1 week in TX and asked her to marry him.  She said yes and she moved to TX one year later.  Over that one year, they had a long distance engagement but their love really seemed to grow strongly despite the fact.  Her sister's situation was exactly the same (strangely enough) when she met her husband.  Except I think they were apart for 1 1/2 years-2 years before getting married.
