How do you feel about universal health care?

How much abuse do you see in the Medicaid system? You know, the "my kids has been sick for the last three days, so I waited until Friday night and brought him to ER" bunch. I see a lot of it. So Texas starts a health insurance program for low income kids-guess what happens! More kids in the ER that should have been in the Dr's office. My favorite is the "One kid is sick so I brought the other three in also" lady.

The fact is that when people do not pay for something they do not respect it and they tend to abuse the system.

Ask any Dr what Medicare reimbursement is for an office visit. Last I heard was $19. This has to pay for the doctor, the office, the office staff, supplies, etc. Then what happens, people complain that the doctor does not spend enough time with them.

So now we change to universal health care and let the government control all the money. After all, they have done such a good job of managing social security.

Plus we shift it to where no one has to pay anything for their health care. What is that going to do to our ERs and Dr's offices and clinics.

I do not claim to have an answer to the problem. but I think that I do know a couple of things: 1. We need to FORCE people to accept at least some of the responsibility of the cost of their health care costs. and 2. letting the government control just about anything (especially where it concerns money) is a recipe for disaster.

  1. That's your solution to a very real problem, ignore it because it will be hard to come up with a viable solution?

  2. No !!  I'm totally against it.

I have type 1 Diabetes and have seem my fair share of doctors.  I do NOT what the government in my business.

I agree with all your points.

  3. People must share with the government for the universal health car in order to be effective and to have more concern.

  4. Almost every other industrialized nation in the world have universal healthcare.  And the people like it a lot as most conservative parties support it as well.  We in the United States pay the most per capita on medical costs and we have worse life expectancy than most 1st world countries.  Many of the medicare problems come about because medicare is NOT a universal health insurance program, you must be poor enough to qualify for it.  By the way, neither candidate is suggesting government run healthcare.  The issue is universal health insurance coverage.

  5. Absolutely against it.... the health care in america is failing because the bloody government got involved in the first place... and now these democratic idoits are saying the answer to our health care problem is more government!?!?!?!?!?! What is wrong with these people... we are not a socialist country... if there is universal health care, prices will go up through taxation, efficency will go down, quality will go down, doctor patient relationship will be destroyed as you will be nothing but a number... you will have to wait months if not years to see a specialist doctor...

If the government gets out of healthcare prices will go down because competetion will increase which will also increase the quality of healthcare, the doctor patient relationship will be established as well, and specialist doctors will be looking for you, instead of you looking for them...

trust me i know i lived in canada.... governments are always inefficent!!! the founders of the country knew that and warned us about it, and unviersal healthcare would be a direct contradiction to the US constitution...

  6. The cost of health care has been greatly influenced by the hidden costs of liability insurance for hospitals, doctors, and nurses mal-practices.  Lawsuits have escalated the costs for quality care.  Setting up a universal health care offers a potential remedy for ALL Americans at an inconvenience of paying out more in taxes, yet as admonished under government control does conjure anxieties because of their past performances with other entitlements.  But the system as is, is not working and the prospects for the future of continuing what we have can only get worse.  The system must be re-invented.  With anything new there will be problems, so perhaps a governed runned health care system is welcome for trial.

  7. the only reason our current health-care system is inadequate is because big pharma and other corporate industries have their lobbyists all up in DC getting dirty with Congress. To fix it we must criminalize corporate lobbying (easier said than done), not nationalize healthcare into the hands of those same conglomerates who caused the problem. All this would do is centralize the administrative power, and give the corporations even more synergies power with even less transparency. Let's stop pretending, we live in a corporate oligarchy, and big business just uses lawmakers as a proxy to carry out their agendas. They want your home, your bank account, your pension funds, your guns, your addiction to oil, and now they want your health

  8. You know what it will do to our crooked doctors and ERs, it will keep them from hiking up their d**n prices for care!!! People are responsible for they medical but d**n they just cant afford it anymore. I mean when you used to be able to go to a walk in clinic and pay 45 to 50 bucks to be seen, now you have to pay 75 to 100 dollars! FOR WHAT? That is what it will do and the government will look into things more carefully to,that way the Doctors and such will have to be on the up and up. That is why our d**n doctors are terrified of the Universal Health Care it has nothing to do with how it is gonna hurt the people no no!!! It is all about the end of the doctors and insurances gouging the American people! IT IS ABOUT THE MONEY MAN!!! Our doctors and insurance are CROOKS in the worst way! They don't want to help people anymore they just want the money. You act like this UHC is a bad thing,it works in Canada and other countries. What is the problem? It would benefit all of us and straighten out our Medical system and our money hungry so called doctors. We need to get our doctors back to wanting to heal and care for us not wanting just the money. If you have a better idea on making our doctors and insurance companies more honest and less crooked do tell.

  9. I can think of  2 reasons why we should not have socialized medicine. Either of these reasons should be enough to stop it.

    1) It isn't in the constitution.

    2) We can't afford it.

Not every "good idea" should be provided for by the federal government, especially if it isn't in the constitution. Sorry for being so unfashionable.
