The welfare system, do you agree with it, disagree with it, think it should be reformed?

And if you think it should be reformed, what are your suggestions?

  1. It's a system that a compassionate country like the United States has for her neediest citizens.  It's also a system that is raped and plundered by politicians and a large group of lazy jackasses.

  2. We need to start with corporate welfare, which costs US taxpayers 3 times more than social welfare. Social welfare is 1% of the federal budget....not much considering the vast amounts of help it provides to our neediest citizens. Social welfare provides services and support to 6 million elderly who never had things like 401k's, retirement, etc. It primarily serves to care for children in very low income families and children in foster care/group homes. It also serves the disabled and Veterans. Personally, we can't afford to cut necessary funding to these programs. The alternative is more homeless vets, more children pushed out of foster care, less access to health and wellness care for children, the disabled, and the elderly. 84% of people on welfare only need the program for less than 2 years. Frankly, there are thousands of better ways to save money without taking it out of the mouths of poor children, elderly and the disabled.

  3. I believe that when people really need help they should get it, but not on a long term basis as a burden on the taxpayers,

  4. Welfare is only four  lazy people

  5. Bruno obviously still lives with mommy and daddy and does not know the responsibilities of living on his own.  Welfare should be reformed. Why should the 80 % of people taking advantage of the system receive health care and other benefits that hard working people do not. It's ridiculous that people on welfare can continue on it and enlarge their families in the meantime. I don't know what the answer is but...something's gotta give.

  6. I think it's fine!  Perhaps we need a few more case workers to help stop some of the misuse of the funds, but for those who really need help, I think it's great!  I don't like to think of children going hungry, needing clothing & being warm in the winter.  I like the thought that people who are ill can get medical help & medicine  when needed.  Most of those who are on Welfare really need the help, I don't begrudge it to them, there but for the grace of God I'm not in their shoes.   No one knows when they will be in those shoes, so I'm in favor of helping those in need & cannot help themselves.

  7. It was reformed already. Instead of getting social services from your county for free, you have to have work within 45 days of applying.
