  1. i heard she said in interviews she's of course happy about it but doesn't feel like she deserves it herself, at least for the moment and that she admits she's not on top of her game so she doesn't really think she deserves it. but for me, hmm.. i agree with her.=) i love jankovic. at least she's honest.. now all she has to do is show them that she does deserve it.

  2. She really doesn't deserve it... but then again, neither do any of the other players.

  3. She definitely doesn't deserve it she said so herself! She got there playing tennis of a lot of quantity and less of quality. She plays too much yet she only has 6 titles to her name?? If she plays in the form of late 2006 I would say that she got there because she's good but now, she got there because a lot of players are slumping or out injured.

It's weird to look at a list with all these great players like Seles, Graf, Navratilova, etc. and at the end of the list you see Jankovic...

  4. She herself said that she doesn't really deserve it, but it is the result of the current state of women's tennis. She is the weakest number one in terms of points to ever have the number one ranking. Here is an excellent article commenting on how Jankovic was able to reach number one with seemingly lesser accomplishments: http://www.tennis.com/features/general/f...

  5. I dont think she should but then again what woman does ?! No-body really deserves the world #1 ranking in woman`s tennis, since justine henin retired its all went downhill from there. I like Safina :) ! She should be it!

  6. I'm not overly excited. She probably won't keep it for long.

There are no dominant women players at the moment. It's anyone's to take.

Jankovic and Ivanovic are OK players but not dominant players. If anyone is dominating at the moment, it's Safina. Let's see if she can keep it going.

Sharapova, and the Willimans sisters have been prone to injury in recent years. It may be lack of conditioning or practicing. They don't play enough to keep in top form so when they do play, it takes much more out of them.

Jankovic does play alot and she's racked up enough points to take the number 1 position.

Let's see who emerges as the next great woman player.

  7. I think it's great!

  8. Ana Ivanovic is much better, having actually won a grand slam.

    Se's also much hotter too.

  9. no one in the womens draw really deserves it

  10. She's clearly not as good as the Williams sisters because they only play 10 events a year!!

I still can't understand why Henin and Clistjers retired so young and poor Martina caught with the drugz, I hope she can prove her innocence.

  11. There's something wrong with the whole system.

It rewards you for playing more, which is wrong; but it also does reward you for winning in the big tournaments.

Then, it doesn't separate the four sorts of surface--clay, faster-slow surface, medium-fast and fast surfaces--grass or artificial surface.

It doesn't take into account how well your opponent played, if the draw was fair, nor if you went an extra set or got blown away, etc.

Nobody on the women's side deserves to be number one just now, with so many injured, by the end of the year being number one will be a survival prize not a victory given to skill.

If ranking is to mean anything, it needs to reward consistency on a particular type of surface, and tournaments need to be played less on clay on equally in number on all four sorts of surface.

Only then could we have some idea of who really deserves to be "number one" on average for the whole year.

Once Justine Henin retired, women's tennis draws became wide open. Now, it's a guessing game from one week to the next.

  12. Its not that I dont like her, I kind of do, but her game is iffy. She cant comepete against the big players, heavy hitters, consistently and has yet to reach a slam final, let alone win one. Until she does capture that first slam she doesnt deserve it. As most think and say , one needs to earn the top spot and not be given to them. Evidenced by Nadals superb play this season. Also with handfuls of top womens players all injured, there isnt as much contenting going on right now. In fact the way Safian is looking she can become number one with a US Open win and good showing at season ending Championships. Also keep an eye out for such players like Radwanska, Azarenka, Szvay, Wozniacki, Kleybanova. They will be cracking top 10 before we know it.

  13. She will lose the ranking soon. She doesn't deserve it. She is inconsistent and had a lot of chances to grasp the ranking from Ivanovic but failed. now that she has it, it will be lost soon enough. Safina would make a great #1 though. She has won a few tournaments this year and is in great form.
