Does anyone know how to fight bulimic urges? I've been feeling like purging almost all the time, but managing to keep myself from going to the bathroom to purge. I'm pregnant, have a 15-month old and I don't want them to get hurt by this at all. I know this ruins teeth and you can die from this. But how do I fight this? I've been dealing an eating disorder for the past 14-years.. I'm tired of this and the eating disorder urges (even the anorexic urges) are getting stronger every day. I don't know how to fight this....Help!

  2. I became Anorexic/ Bulimic when I was 15, after the suicide of my oldest sister months before. I never realized I had a problem until age 24 when I was pregnant. That's when I talked to my therapist about it. She helped me so much while I was pregnant. I breast fed around 6 mos...the problems started resurfacing shortly after I quit . (I've had 3 kids... age 25, 27, 30...with all my pregnancies I was able to focus on the baby, not my eating disorders,or mental health issues.( I know that I had already been receiving help for depression and other mental problems for at least 4 and a half years before becoming pregnant the first time...)  Have you ever had any depression issues along with your eating disorders?  Have you received treatment ever? If you haven't sought treatment consider that there is probably  an underlying cause for your eating disorders.  Also, you have a very young toddler at the same time as being pregnant. You might be suffering from depression caused from the pregnancies so close together.  I wish I could tell you that thinking of the unborn baby,    as well as your other child would truly stop the urges. But, the reality is that you don't really have control of these disorders most of the time, they have control of you. If you have to... Go to the ER... tell them you are suicidal due to these problems or something of this nature. I know in most states they must help anyone who is a threat to themselves... also here in Texas, they help you get indigent type insurance once you have (OR BEFORE you have), hospital bills. See if your area may also  have these policies.

    God bless you, Joni

  3. thats a tough thing to deal with you should really try to convince your husband to let you get help for yourself and your unborn babies health.

  4. If you are a Christian believer, we have a group online in yahoo that helps bulimics and we talk about how we overcome by the power of Christ.  I had an ED for 10 yrs and have been healed for 15 yrs.  There's hope in God and healing in His Son.

  5. For starters - YOUR PREGNANT! That means your little unborn baby is desperately trying to grow and develop. Take some responsibility for your child and unborn one and seek the help you need. Certainly any obsession with body size or shape needs to change while you are pregnant. Your teeth are the least of your worries!

  6. Go to rehab.

  7. The fact that you are pregnant and could harm or even kill you baby should be enough to stop you from purging. I have the same problem and know how bad the urges can be but I am not pregnant so I always give in to the urges. I do it at home and at work. If being pregnant isn't enough to stop you, then you need to talk to a doctor. Don't put your baby's life in danger.

You said you don't have insurance or money....there are doctors that will see you for free or on a sliding scale. Thats messed up that your husband doesn't want you to get help....doesn't he care that you are pregnant? F that. talk to someone.  If you really are going to try this on your own then every time you have the urge to purge think of that unborn child that you are carrying and your other child that will grow up without a mom if this eating disorder kills you. Think of the possible consequences every time you get those urges.
