How do you figure out if theres oil fields in your area?

i recently purchased a lot of land in athens, tx and i wanted to know if there was some kind of website that i could go to to figure out if there is oil in my area

  1. Start  digging  up  your  area


  2. Try the city hall land records department.

  3. If anyone knows that there's oil in your area, the odds are almost certain that you'd see the equipment to get it up above ground.  At this point, pretty much anything that's been found and would be worth anything -- not all oil is profitable to refine, although more and more is getting that way -- is being taken out.  People don't tend to leave oil that they know is down there alone, particularly not in an oil-producing state.

    Anything else would probably take an experienced person walking around and looking at your land/geology to make at least an educated guess as to whether there may be anything there.
