How do you figure out the final date for a divorce?

In California, are divorce papers final 6 months after they are aproved by the judge or after they are filed? What happens if you turn them in and the judge didn't approve it and you have to fix something later? Does that effect your final DATE?

How about just waiting until the judge says you are free.?

my husband was married once before and it took about a year. there is no set time on how long it takes, it depends on how busy they are with other cases, etc.
