I have a kitten she is about 6 1/2 weeks old and I can no longer care for her. I went into this blind sided and I am never home and I can't take care of her no more. I live in Chicago and I am wondering does anybody know where I can take my kitten to that doesn't kill them.

Please help!!

Peace and Blessings

  1. Why don't you post on Craigs List? You might get a really fast answer, or have to wait a while, but then you would know the person really wants her, and not a shelter where they would mistreat and eventually kill the animals! A lot of people put free kittens or puppies on there, and it really works well.

  2. She is WAY too young to be taken away from her mother.  That is part of the reason caring for her is so overwhelming for you.

Do NOT advertise her on craig's list or in the newspaper.  You have no idea who is on the other end.  One man recently arrested for running a dog fighting operation admitted he had gotten over 100 puppies and kittens from craig's list and used them as bait animals.

For the Chicago Area I definitely recommend you contact the Buddy Foundation (www.thebuddyfoundation.org) they are headquarted in Arlington Heights and are wonderful, wonderful people.  They helped me find homes for two abandoned kittens we rescued and nursed back to health.

  3. do any of your local newspapers have pages where you can advertise animals for sale? if so you could try that. if not, ask around your friends, family, or friends families and see if there is anyone that would be willing to have her who could look after him really well. don't take her to an animal centre unless a last resort because they will probably full and if they can't rehome her, they will either have to kill her, or kill one of the older cats there so there is room to keep the kitten. I hope you find a nice home for her =)

  4. Keep in mind it gets easier as she gets older.  At 6 weeks, she probably shouldn't even be away from her mother yet.

But try calling local shelters, putting her on Craigslist, and talking to friends and neighbors about her.  I'm sorry you don't feel like you can keep her, but hopefully you can find her a good home.
