Not all maps have the longitude and latitude lines on them.  Zero degrees E-W starts at Greenwich, England.  Going east or west longitude increases to 180 degrees.  The equator is zero degrees N-S and latitude increases to 90 degrees at the poles.  As an example, W83 degrees 39 minutes N32 degrees 50 minutes is the location for Macon, Georgia, USA.  Another example: E115 degrees 51 minutes S31 degrees 57 minutes is the location for Perth, Australia.

    Sometimes, longitude uses plus (East)  and minus (West) signs and latitude uses plus (North) and minus (South).
