  1. These answers are very right on.  I know nothing about breeding dogs, but I bred Siamese Cats YEARS ago.  If you're having problems finding a breed dog for yours, you shouldn't be doing it.  To breed, you should be a professional to do so.

When I bred cats, it cost LOTS of money to do so.  But I did it for the love of the breed, as I bred huge Siamese.

My suggestion is to get educated on the process, get vet records, registration and other records in order.  Join organizations, etc.  If you're going to do it, do it right.

Or give your pet the additional 3-4 years it will lose back if you don't breed.

  2. You take your dog to a show ring and earn her CH title..  you meet people, you find an experienced mentor..  when she's 2 years of age, you get all her genetic tests done.. OFA, CERF, BAER, Optigen, etc.

No one with a decent stud will stud their dog to you unless you do these things.  If she's worth breeding, you will get offers in the show ring.

  3. If you have a purebred, the best thing to do is to enter her in the AKC dog shows, and aquire a championship on her.  There, you will also meet other owner's of your breed and IF your dog is of quaility, you will have no problem finding owner's of b*****s who would like to use your dog as the sire....

Anything less than this method is irresponsible and what puppy mills do.

  4. Purebred does not mean good enough to breed.  Unless there are champion lines and she has been screened and tested by a vet, you shouldn't breed her.

  5. -stifles laugh-.

A pure bred dog doesn't qualify for breeding quality. The reason you can't find any males is because your dog is just PET quality.

Spay her and extend her life. If you breed her, you may as well kiss the last three years of her life goodbye.

  6. These people are right but this is life, just ask around, post signs in vets and pet stores. look on the internet, kijiji.com, craigs list, if you have any yahoo groups in your town post it there.

  7. Ask around with the other people you show your dog with. I'm sure you have a wonderful proven female and anyone would like to get a puppy from her. I'm sure they have proven studs you can breed her to.

  8. YOu may have to raise your own.. you can look in ads in back of magazines, you can look online on the pregancy or breeding websites or groups.  Personally I would try AKC registered breeders listings first on the AKC.org website.

I have blog on female dogs and breeding etc.

I also have book I recommend which right now is cheaper when I bought it locally

  9. See this is the thing with being a responsible, well-respected breeder.  They have no problem finding a stud for their b__ch or vice versa.  Having titled and shown their dogs, having done all necessary heath and genetic tests, and studied genetics and breeding with qualified mentors--they will be "in the loop" with other like-minded, respected breeders.

So the easiest way to find a male, is actually the hard way, and that is to put in the time, effort and money into being a good breeder.

  10. Breeding isn' t like putting two hamsters together.  Bloodlines should be research on both sides the male & female. Also you shouldn't breed unless you already have plans on what to do with the puppies. Despite what you might think you don't make any money selling puppies, they are very demanding and there are lots of vet visits just to name two things.

There are already so many unwanted or neglected dogs in the world we don't need anymore....

  11. Put an ad in the paper saying you're looking for a stud, or put an ad on craigslist.
