How do you find a reputable home study agency?

We are looking to adopt and need to do a home study. Just wondering where to find and how to evaluate. We had a friend who adopted and wound up getting ripped off by their home study agency.

We asked our adoption attorney for a recommendation. Most people go through the agency.

I am curious though, your friends were "ripped off" in what way? In our state home studies must be done by state licensed and regulated social workers, who have strict guidelines to follow.

I found mine through the adoption attorney we were working with.  They are usually pretty knowledgeable about who is out there and how good they are, since most people report back to them at some point about how their home study went.  If by chance you are in PA, send me an email and I can recommend an excellent one.  If not, best of luck!
