depends on which game you're asking. The old ones, if you had two games and two game boys, you can have a yucky pokemon you dont want hold it, then you trade it with your partner. In the middle of  the whole transferring, you turn off the one thats sending it, and Voila. 2 master balls. from there, they'll multiply by how many times you do the trick.
