  1. Most breast lumps aren't cancerous, and most cancerous breast lumps aren't painful. They can be, but most people diagnosed with breast cancer have felt no pain.

Someone can only be sure they have breast cancer after all the appropriate medical tests have been done - even doctors can't tell before that.

My impression from your Q&A - and forgive me if I'm wrong - is that you're quite young, perhaps still in school?

Breast cancer is mainly a disease of ageing; 80% of those diagnosed with breast cancer are over 50, it's rare in women under 40 and almost unheard of in under 25s.

Every day several teenage girls post on here terrified that they have breast cancer because of perfectly normal hormonal activity. The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women start regular breast self-examination at the age of 20.

When I was diagnosed shortly after my 50th birthday my breast care nurse referred to me as one of her 'younger women'

If you are worried, see your doctor. If s/he thinks there is cause for concern, s/he will refer you for tests

  2. your best bet is to see your doctor...sometimes tumors that hurt are called Fibroid tumors which alot of women have...go and get checked ok....good luck

  3. Finding a lump painful or not is neither good or bad, it is just something that needs to be checked out. Most breast cancers are found due to finding a lump or it is seen on a routine mammogram, followed by biopsy.
