How do you find chinch bugs in lawn?

  1. If the lawn has Chinch Bugs, they will be concentrated mostly in the areas between the damaged tuft and the healthy turf.  You have to get down and separate the grass to see them because they hang out close to the ground and generally feed on the "crown" or bottom part of the grass blades.  They are most active when the weather warms up for the day... so afternoon is the best time to see them.  

    They have a couple different stages ranging from very small and red when they are very young to orange with wings just starting to develop.  The adults are black with white markings on the wings.  

    Best bet is to tell your neighbor to make sure the lawn is watered regularly to help it recover from any damage that they have done.

  2. Also you need to call a pest control service, the chinch bugs  can end up eating your entire lawn, There are chemicals you can buy at hard wear stores BUT, they are not as strong as the ones a licensed pest control operator can apply to your lawn
