Western Company of North America was bought out by BJ Services (NYSE - BJS) in 1995. For info on how to exchange your shares contact American Stock Transfer & Trust Co. @ [phone]. Not sure if it was bought for cash or stock in BJS.

If it is a public company go to finance website, such as http://finance.google.com/finance.  If is a private company, you don't really know what it is worth, and you can't really get an idea unless you are an insider.  Sometimes they are merged or taken over in which case you have to do some research to findout the new company name.  If you owned it you should have received notice of any impending mergers or take overs.
