Question:

How do you find out the size of people in an image?

I have seen it on CSI, and I have seen people use it in various images before. They basically draw a line of something they know the height of (so the program gets the aspects (1cm = 100m, etc) right), then line up something they don't... and it tells them.

What are these programs/filters called, and where could I get them for free? Does Photoshop or Microsoft's Paint do it?

  1. estimator, its not to accurate

  2. If you want to find out the high of the guy on the picture... have someone stand with a ruler or some object in place until it matches the position on the picture.  The measure that up.

Any statistical or other sophisticated software will calcalute (MS Visio might) but you still have to provide the distance for the software to calculate.

Imagine a calculator... you still need to type the numbers and hit enter or = to get the results

    Good luck!

  3. In order for your mentioned method to work, the object you use to get the aspect must be equal distance from the camera as the person you are trying to figure the height for. (e.g the person is standing directly next to a a table.) If the person is standing in front or behind the table your measurements will be off. But if the object is an equal distance away, you can measure manually and multiply the cm by your discovered aspect to find the height, but neither Photoshop nor Microsoft Paint will do this for you.

  4. I am going to HIGHLY doubt you can do anything like that on Photoshop of Paint.

  5. reference points. tiles stairs railings all are somewhat standardized. so if you measure how big they are you can figure how big any thing in the photo is. for simplicity sake imagine a bottle is next to a ruler you know the ruler is 12" and it measures 3" in the photo and the bottle is 2.4375" in the photo how big is the bottle (2.4375*12/3)" or 9.75"
